South Korea and North Korea have been drawn in the same group in women's handball at this year's Asian Games in Indonesia.

In a draw held Thursday, South Korea, the defending champion, ended up in Group A with North Korea, Kazakhstan, China and India. The Aug. 18-Sept. 2 Asian Games will be co-hosted by Jakarta and Palembang.

The Group B nations are Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia.

North Korea will make its first Asian Games appearance in women's handball since 2010. The North finished fifth in that tournament, after failing to make it past the preliminary round against China, Japan and India.

The Koreas last faced each other in an Asian Games in 2002 in South Korea's Busan, where the South prevailed 34-24.

South Korea has won six of the seven Asian Games gold medals awarded in women's handball, only missing out in 2010, when it settled for bronze.

In the men's tournament, South Korea will face Japan and Pakistan in Group B. North Korea won't be in the men's competition.

The South Korean men won gold in 2010 and silver in 2014.
