A former financial supervisory executive has been arrested over irregularities in his organization's employment process as local prosecutors tighten their investigation into the recruitment misdeeds in the country.

The Seoul Southern District Court late Friday night approved the arrest warrant for Lee Byung-sam, a former senior deputy governor at the Financial Supervisory Service, for giving special favors to certain job candidates and doctoring documents. Lee is the first one to be detained in the prosecution's ongoing investigation of recruitment irregularities at the FSS.

According to the investigation authorities, Lee ordered the fabrication of the resumes of three candidates who applied for a position at the FSS last year. He is also accused of hiring job applicants who failed to pass recruitment tests.

The prosecutors have been watching the FSS since July after a tipoff about its recruitment misdeeds. They then raided the financial regulator last month.

Lee was summoned three times by prosecutors before the authorities requested an arrest warrant for the 55-year-old on Wednesday.
