South Korean boy band TVXQ has set a new record by selling the most singles as a foreign artist in Japan, the group’s agency said Tuesday.

SM Entertainment said the band has sold 4.08 million copies of its singles in Japan, surpassing 4.01 million by Hong Kong’s Agnes Chan.

The group’s newest single “Time Works Wonders,” released last Wednesday, sold 107,000 copies, ranking second on the Oricon weekly chart in the first week of release.

“We’re really happy and thankful for setting a new record with our latest single,” the group said in a statement. “We owe this to our fans. As always, we’d like to continue giving our best in our songs.”

TVXQ had previously rewritten history in Japan by selling 3.1 million copies of its 2012 single “ANDROID,” the best-selling single by a foreign artist.

The group has also sent a record 34 singles to the Oricon’s top 10 weekly chart and had 12 of them rank first. It has also sold the most singles in one week as a foreign artist by selling 256,000 copies of its 2010 single “Break Out!” in the first week of release.

TVXQ is scheduled to hold a special live tour, dubbed “T1ST0RY,” on Dec. 6-7 at Seoul’s Olympic Park. (Yonhap)
