The Gwangju International Center is running an overnight trip to Wando on the south coast on Aug. 30-31.

The trip will stop first at the small island of Cheonghaejin to take in the views and look around a museum about Silla naval commander Jangbobo, who was garrisoned on the island.

The next stop will be Wando seafood market, followed by a lunch of raw fish and spicy seafood stew.

In the afternoon, the tour will move by bus to Myeongsasimni Beach on Sinjido Island, where participants will check in to their accommodations and enjoy the beach and an outdoor barbecue in the evening.

On the way back, the tour will stop at Gangjin for lunch, where there will also be a short tour of the Jeolla Military Fortress and the Hamel Museum, which looks at Hendrick Hamel and his crew, who spent 13 years in Korea after being shipwrecked off Jejudo Island in 1653.

The tour costs 85,000 won for GIC members, 105,000 won for nonmembers and 45,000 won for preschoolers. To book a place or for more information, visit gic.or.kr by Aug. 17.
