Celebrities encouraged youngsters to vote in the 18th presidential election on Wednesday, pledging eccentric feats should there be a high turnout.
The stars’ pledges were aimed at getting voter turnout to 70 percent or above.
Comedian Park Sung-kwang announced on TV show “Gag Concert” on Sunday that “December 19th is the presidential election. It is not just a holiday we have awaited for the last five years but it is a day we are going to determine our future.” The “Gag Concert” team plans to open a signing event for 700 people and free hugs event if the turnout reaches 70 percent.
Government officials also pitched in. Gangwon Province governor Choi Moon-soon said he would run in a marathon without his shirt in Pyeongchang next month if turnout reached 72 percent. Park Won-soon, mayor of Seoul, promised to sing a song in the sqaure at Seoul City Hall, and presidential candidate Moon Jae-in said he would treat people to makgeolli and do the horse dance if the turnout surpassed 77 percent.
Entertainer La Risa, who appeared on “Global Talk Show,” said she would horse dance naked in the street if turnout reached 75 percent.
The actors in “Basic Instincts,” a play for adults, said they would take pictures naked with the audience if the turnout exceeded 80 percent.
Voters themselves posted a torrent of messages, pledging that they would offer food or other free gifts if a certain turnout was met.
In the presidential election in 2007, the turnout was 63 percent. In 2002, the figure stood at 70.8 percent.
The voter turnout over the country as of 2 p.m. was 52.6 percent.

유명인사들이 투표율을 놓고 속속들이 공약을 내놓았다.
공약은 투표율 70%에서 시작된다.

공무원들 또한 투표율 공약에 동참했다. 강원도지사 최문순은 투표율이 72%에 다다를 경우 1월에 평창에서 열리는 마라톤에 상의를 탈의한 채 참가하겠다고 밝혔다. 서울시장 박원순은 같은 투표율 달성 시 서울시청에서 노래를 부르겠다고 공약했다. 투표율이 77%가 될 경우 문재인은 시민들에게 막걸리를 대접하고 말춤을 추겠다고 말한 바 있다.
연극계의 공약은 더욱 자극적이다. 투표율이 75%가 될 경우 TV 프로그램 “미수다” 전 출연자이자 현재 대학로 연극배우로 활동 중인 라리사(La Risa)가 파트너 배우와 함께 거리에서 알몸으로 말춤을 추겠다고 약속했다. 대학로 연극 “원초적 본능”의 배우들은 투표율이 80%가 될 경우 관객들과 알몸으로 사진을 찍겠다고 했다.
일반인의 공약도 잇따른다. 저마다의 높은 투표율에 치킨, 피자, TV 등 갖가지 선물을 걸었다.
2007년 대선 선거율은 63%, 2002년 선거율은 70.8%를 기록했다. 2002년 20~30대의 선거율은 2007년보다 10~12% 가량 높았다.
2시까지의 전국 투표율은 52.6%로 집계되었다.
