The Supreme Prosecutors’ Office indicted a trainee prosecutor involved in a sex scandal without detention on Monday.

The prosecution’s internal inspection team charged prosecutor Jeon Jae-mong with bribery and abuse of power.

“His inappropriate behavior caused anger and criticism among the public and tainted the reputation of prosecutors,” said an SPO official, adding that the prosecution would seek the dismissal of Jeon.

The internal inspection committee at the SPO last week recommended seeking charges against the 30-year-old prosecutor.

Since Jeon and the 42-year-old woman agreed not to indict each other for their sexual relations, the prosecutor cannot be charged for adultery.

The Seoul Central District Court twice refused an arrest warrant for the prosecutor on charges of bribery.

He was accused of having sex with his female suspect at his office and a motel last month, allegedly in return for favors while he was interrogating the woman at his office.

He was investigating a theft case in which the suspect allegedly stole goods worth around 4.5 million won ($4,200) at a store.
