The National Election Commission on Friday filed a complaint against a Saenuri Party official engaging in illegal election activities for presidential candidate Park Geun-hye.

The person identified by his surname Yoon is known to be the director of a social networking service support team of the ruling party, which consulted him about SNS.

The commission raided a unregistered election office run by Yoon in Yeouido, central Seoul, and confiscated evidence including eight computers, a laptop, certificates of appointment under candidate Park’s name, and applications for party membership.

Yoon opened an social media company in September and hired seven workers who posted comments favorable to Park and denunciated the major contender Moon Jae-in of the opposition Democratic United Party on Twitter.

It is thought that the SNS team reported their online activities to Rep. Ahn Sang-soo.

While the Saenuri Party keeps distance from Yoon and his illegal activities, it promised to conduct its own investigation if any wrongdoing is found.

“The party has not ordered Yoon to conduct such activities, and Ahn said the allegations are not true,” said Kwon Young-se, the situation room chief of Park’s election committee.

“The party will conduct investigations into the case when the NEC announces the results of its investigation,” said Kim Moo-sung, head of the Saenuri Party’s election strategy office.
