Four vocational colleges have been selected to receive government support in a state program to strengthen competitiveness of technical schools, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said Tuesday.

They are Gyeonggi College of Science and Technology in Gyeonggi Province, Kyungbuk College in North Gyeongsang Province, Ajou Motor College in South Chungcheong Province and Hallym Polytechnic University in Gangwon Province.

The selected schools will receive incentives, including some 500 million won ($447,000) in funds and administrative support through the ministry’s World Class College program.

The ministry launched the WCC program in 2011 with an aim of strengthening local vocational colleges and nurturing them into globally competitive schools.

Under the WCC program, the ministry also supported seven colleges last year and plans to select a total of 21 vocational schools by 2013.
