Korea Railroad Corporation is holding a series of cultural events starting this weekend, as part of efforts to draw the public’s interest on the country’s railroads.

Starting today, KORAIL will hold an exhibition on various types of trains at Seoul Culture Station 284 for three days. The exhibition features hundreds of miniature trains ― from early 20th-century steam locomotives to KTX-Sancheon, the latest bullet train developed by homegrown technology. The collection includes a 2.8-meter-long replica of a steam locomotive worth 200 million won, KORAIL said. The exhibition runs through July 22. Admission is free.

On Saturday, KORAIL presents a classical music concert at the main hall of Seoul Station where KORAIL Symphony Orchestra will perform popular classical repertoires including “Summer” from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Saint-Saens Symphony No. 3 “Organ Symphony” and Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance Marches Op. 39.”

Early this year, KORAIL launched its own orchestra by holding a nationwide audition. The 92-member orchestra is scheduled to perform at the Yeosu Expo in August and the DMZ International Documentary Movie Festival in September.

“By expanding cultural services, we hope to improve our public image and also to communicate more with the people,” said KORAIL president Chung Chang-young.
