A man who appeared on the cover of rock band Placebo’s debut album as a child is planning a lawsuit against the band for allegedly “ruining his life”, according to British news reports.

The 28-year-old unemployed chef David Fox claims that he was severely bullied at school after the band used picture of him as a 12-year-old on the hit album “Placebo.”

Fox said he never consented to the photo being used, which was virtually laid out everywhere due to the album’s enormous success.

After his image was distributed worldwide, Fox said he was singled out at school and teased by his friends so bad that he had to be driven home from school everyday to avoid bullying. He eventually had to drop out after a year.

He said the downturn of his life started with his appearing on the album cover and vowed to use every penny he has and his mother’s savings to sue the world-famous band.

Placebo did not respond immediately to Fox’s claims, but the band’s management said Fox should direct his claim to the record label.

영국의 인기 얼터니티브 록밴드인 플라시보는 1996년에 데뷔 한 후 천만장이 넘는 판매고를 기록한 인기 밴드이다. 특히 ‘플라시보’ 앨범은 데뷔작이었음에도 영국 차트에서 5위를 기록하는 폭발적인 반응을 끌어냈다.

자연히 커버에 있는 폭스의 사진은 전 세계적으로 노출이 되었고 이로 인해 그의 삶은 악몽같이 변했다고 한다.

그전까지 학교에서 인기가 많았던 폭스는 순식간에 ‘왕따’가 되었고 반 아이들의 괴롭힘에 시달려야 했다. “저와 같은 편이 되고 싶어하는 아이는 아무도 없었어요,”라고 폭스는 회고 했다.

견디다 못한 폭스는 결국 학교를 그만둬야 했고 요리사가 되었지만, 경제침체로 인해 취직도 못하고 있는 상태다.

그는 자신에게 닥친 이 모든 불행이 앨범 커버에 출연하면서 시작되었다고 주장하고 있다.

한편 플라시보는 폭스의 소송에 대한 공식 입장은 아직 밝히지 않았으나, 밴드의 소속사인 리버먼 매니지먼트는 언론과의 인터뷰에서 ‘밴드가 아닌 앨범을 출시한 제작사 버진을 고소하라’고 말한 것으로 알려졌다. (코리아헤럴드)
