LG Display announced Monday that it has won a Bosch Global Supplier Award for its technological prowess, becoming the first company in the industry to gain global recognition in the automotive display sector.

The Bosch Group, the world’s No. 1 automotive parts manufacturer, reserves the award for only 46 suppliers from the pool of its 35,000 global partners worldwide. Since 1987, the award has recognized outstanding performers in the manufacturing and supply of raw materials, products and services every two years.

Recognizing the growing importance of in-vehicle displays, Bosch established a new category for the in-vehicle display sector starting this year. LG Display became the inaugural recipient of the award.

“Throughout the strategic partnership since 2012, LG Display has demonstrated distinguished technology, rigorous quality management practices, and reliable supply capacity,” Bosch explained in the released statement while also touting LG's capacity in supplying them with display components of exceptional quality without interruption throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

For years, LG Display has served as a global supplier of digital clusters -- instrument clusters in a vehicle's dashboard -- and center fascias, or central control units, to top-tier automotive component makers and original equipment manufacturers, including Bosch.

It has also achieved the highest global market share for five consecutive years since 2018 in the field of premium automotive displays measuring 10 inches or larger.

LG Display aims to further enhance its presence in the market by leveraging its technological prowess in such realms as tandem organic light-emitting diodes.

In 2019, LG Display became the first company in the industry to introduce its tandem OLED for automotive use -- a groundbreaking two-stack OLED technology where an extra organic-emitting layer is placed over the existing layer to provide brighter screens, enhanced optimal stability and longer life span.

Starting this year, it plans to mass-produce its second-generation tandem OLED, which further elevates the efficiency of organic light-emitting components.

"This award acknowledges our endless pursuit of the perfect customer experience and continuous endeavors in delivering unparalleled technologies," stated Kim Byeong-koo, senior vice president and head of the auto business group at LG Display.

"We will continue to enhance our competitive edge through our revolutionary technologies."
