More than 190 design firms from 13 countries around the world, including China, gathered for the forum that will highlight the artistic world of design and its commercialization, organizers said.
“Design is the soft power of the manufacturing industry. It adds great values. We will nurture the design industry, strengthen our competitiveness, and elevate DK festival as Asia’s main and comprehensive design event in Asia,” said Park Il-joon, director at the Industry Ministry.
DK2015 has six main themes: “The Life” features furniture, accessories and lightings used in ordinary housing, “The Eco” highlights environmentally-friendly creations, and “The Technology” explores the world of design and 3D-printing.
“The Entertainment” focuses on charactering, packaging, advertisement and others while “The Art” digs into the Korean traditional artisanship infused with modern factors. “The Innovation” sheds light on innovative design mixed with cultural factors created by corporates.
The Good Design Award winners are being showcased while nominees and winners of several global design awards are displayed at the booths.
Entrepreneurs or those seeking business opportunities in the design industry will be able to get some tips at the Design Agora where they can network and interact with experts to learn about the latest trends. The mentors include Hong Kong-based industrial designer Tommy Li, who was a keynote speaker at the Herald Design Forum.
"We wanted to promote the great aspects of Korea’s design and also contribute to the competitiveness of the domestic industry. The festival is the largest ever and will get better every year,” a spokesman of the Korean Institute of Design Promotion, the organizer of the event, said.
