LG Electronics on Thursday held a meeting of advisers on corporate social responsibility in Beijing as part of the Korean tech giant’s renewed commitment to more socially responsible activities at its overseas operations.

The company has held the CSR meeting in Korea and the U.S. since 2010. The Chinese event was first of its kind, the company said.

Representatives of local civic and academic groups, including Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, attended the first Beijing meeting to discuss LG’s CSR activities in China and the future direction.

Since 1999, LG Electronics has set up sisterhood relationship with six schools in four cities, such as Jianjin, Nanjing, Qingdao and Chengdu, running diverse support programs for students and teachers as well as donating its electronics products.

In partnership with local governments, the company has also joined hands to support the restoration efforts of disaster-hit regions.

From this year, the company has started publishing its sustainable management report in Chinese, together with its Korean and English versions, with aims to better communicate with local stake-holding groups for their CSR activities.

“We pledge to extend socially responsible activities based on requirements and advice discussed during the meeting,” said LG Electronics president and Chinese chief Shin Moon-beom.

LG Electronics has held the CSR meeting twice a year, with the details reflected in its management activities and the sustainability report.

The company plans to extend the meeting to cover other European and Latin countries in the future and to discuss a more diverse range of issues.
