YEOSU -- Organizers for the 2012 Yeosu Expo said Saturday that they have successfully carried out a full-fledged dress rehearsal to check overall preparations for the international event.

The three-month-long exposition that will officially open on May 12 is expected to attract visitors from all over the world, and highlight efforts being made to combat the challenges of climate change and its impact on the marine environment.

The dress rehearsal involved 100,000 visitors, picked on-line, who were allowed to enter the fair grounds and see the attractions.

Organizers checked to see if existing facilities as well as the transportation structure could handle the influx of visitors and reviewed the overall preparedness of each national and corporate pavilion, the aquarium and main expo tower.

“Everything was checked under real conditions that mirrored what should happen when the visitors start to arrive at the expo site in a week," an organizer said.

He added that live performances, acrobatic shows and parades were all held as part of the rehearsal programs to gauge public response.

Despite the overall readiness, organizers said that of the 104 countries that said they will open pavilions at the exhibition, 30 have yet to finish completing the necessary work, raising concerns they may not be ready in one week for the opening event. (Yonhap)
