The Institute of Traditional Korean Food is offering free Korean cooking classes for foreigners.
The “Moving Hansik Class” can be held anywhere in Seoul where more than 30 foreigners are willing to learn how to make “hansik,” or Korean traditional food. The class is open to foreigners currently living or visiting South Korea.
“We hope to provide an easy opportunity for foreigners to experience and learn how to make Korean cuisine, and ultimately make hansik a cuisine enjoyed worldwide,” said officials at the institute.
Classes can choose from three menus ― kimchi, kimbab, or “naengchae” ― chilled vegetables of the season.
During the two-hour class, professional cooks teach how to make the dishes and then students can eat them. Participants will also take home “The Beauty of Korean Food Best 12,” a comic book introducing 12 representative Korean dishes.
The program is supported by the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Taste of Korea. Classes can be held any day except Sundays until November. To apply for the program, call (02) 708-0772.
