Chinese premier says N.K. leader invited to witness economic development

TOKYO (Yonhap) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao told South Korean President Lee Myung-bak on Sunday that Beijing invited North Korean leader Kim Jong-il to the country in an effort to help Pyongyang learn about his nation's economic development and use it for reviving the North's own economy, an official said.

Wen made the remark during a bilateral meeting with Lee on the sidelines of a tripartite summit in Tokyo with Japan, saying that he understands Lee's views of the reclusive leader's trip to China.

(도쿄=연합뉴스) 원자바오(溫家寶) 중국 총리는 22일 김정일 북한 국방위원장의 중국 방문 초청과 관련, "중국의 발전상황을 이해하고, 이를 자신들의 발전에 활용하기 위한 기회를 주기 위한 목적으로 초청했다"고 말했다.

원 총리는 이날 도쿄 뉴오타니호텔에서 가진 정상회담에서 이명박 대통령에게 "이 대통령이 북한 지도자들의 방중에 대해 원대한 안목을 갖고 전략적 차원에서 긍정적으로 평가하고 있는 것을 중국은 유의하고 있다"며 이같이 설명했다고 홍상표 청와대 홍보수석이 전했다.
