Two severed heads were found wrapped in separate plastic bags dumped at a crossroads eight blocks from Zocalo square in central Mexico City and is creating anxiety among locals, Mexico’s Milenio TV reported on Wednesday.

Many Korean foreign residents own businesses selling fashion goods in nearby district of Tepito--only four blocks from where the decapitated heads were discovered.

Mexican police and prosecutors alike view that the severed heads recovered near Zocalo square are most likely linked to warring drug gangs. 

The prosecution further mentioned that there has not been any missing persons reports related to the case and that a thorough investigation will take place into unearthing the drug cartel responsible for the hedious crime.

Illicit drug-trafficking organization and gangs in Mexico severely decapitate bodies of their victims in order to instill fear in civilians. The police and prosecution have realized the gravity of the situation as gang violence persists to plague Mexico everyday.

Local media reported that this specific case, however, was brought to light due to the rare number of cases where gangs dumped body parts in a centralized area of the city. Zocalo residents are shaken with fear.

Drug cartels in Mexico City are known to have relative weak influence compared to other regions, but police believe that drug wars will infest Mexico City. Public concern for rising cartel gang violence in Mexico City reached its peak following the most violent shootout in July.
