President Moon Jae-in's approval rating rose for a second consecutive week last week, apparently on a series of welfare programs that seek to provide additional support to low-income earners, a poll showed Monday.

In a survey conducted on 2,529 voters throughout the nation, 73.9 percent said they approved of the president's management of state affairs, up 1.5 percentage points from a week earlier.

The weekly survey took place between Monday through Friday, according to Realmeter.

"It appears the president's continued efforts to communicate with the people and his pursuit of public welfare policies following the formation of his first Cabinet partly contributed to the increase," it said in a press release.

Those who disapproved of Moon's management of state affairs accounted for 19.7 percent of the total, down 1.3 percentage points from a week earlier.

Moon's ruling Democratic Party continued to enjoy the highest approval rating of 51.8 percent, but the latest reading marked a 0.5 percentage-point drop from the previous week.

The main opposition Liberty Korea Party came in second with 14.9 percent, down 2 percentage points over the cited period, followed by the splinter conservative Bareun Party with 6.8 percent.

The liberal People's Party came next with 6.7 percent, marking a 1.2 percentage-point increase, while the progressive Justice Party scored 6.2 percent, up 1.7 percentage points. (Yonhap)
