[THE INVESTOR] Korea’s state-run agencies held a conference in New York City on June 15 (local time) to help local start-ups gain foothold in the U.S.

Korea’s trade promotion agency KOTRA and Small and Medium Business Administration hosted “Korea Startup Summit NYC 2016” at New York City’s Microsoft Technology Center, inviting 15 promising local start-ups and five start-ups that have already entered the U.S. market. 



More than 50 investors from major American cities, including New York City, Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles, attended the forum to learn about the companies.

The forum was a follow-up event of “Korea Startup Summit,” which was held in October last year when President Park Geun-hye visited the country. SMBA head Joo Young-sup, New York City officials and company representatives from the U.S. and Korea also attended the forum.

“The event is important because it’s a stepping-stone for Korean start-ups to enter the U.S. market,” Kim Jong-choon, president of KOTRA North America Head Office, said. “We will continue to organize these events.”
