A medical volunteer group will hold a dating event on Christmas Day to raise money to help people in the Philippines.

Yeonwoo, a volunteer medical service, said that it will host the dating event at the upmarket social venue Raum in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul, at 5 p.m. on Dec. 25.

A total of 1,004 singles aged 25 to 39 ― 502 men and 502 women ― will participate.

Its matchmaking programs will be organized by The XY, a dating service company for singles.

Participants are required make a minimum donation of 10,000 won or more. Their donations will be used for relief aid to the Philippines, which was badly damaged by Typhoon Haiyan last month.

Established in 2009, Yeonwoo has provided pro bono medical services here and in Southeast Asia. In August, its members visited flood-hit regions of Manila, Philippines, to treat about 2,000 residents.

Yeonwoo said it planned the event to give singles the chance to date and help people at the same time.

Interested singles should apply at www.thexy.co.kr.
