세계에서 최대 물 미끄럼틀,무려 650미터!

뉴질랜드의 우울증 퇴치 자선단체가 ‘세계에서 가장 큰 워터슬라이드 (물 미끄럼틀)’을 짓고 있다고 현지언론이 17일 보도했다.

더 오클랜더 등이 보도한 바에 따르면 리브 모어 어썸(Live More Awesome: 더 멋지게 살라)의 창립자 지미 헌트와 댄 드룹스틴이 오클랜드 부근 마을인 헬렌스빌에 대형 워터슬라이드를 짓고 있다고 한다.

계획대로 완성될 경우 워터슬라이드는 길이가 650 미터에 달하게 되는데, 이 경우 ‘세계에서 가장 긴 워터슬라이드’로 기록될 것으로 보인다.

현재 기네스 북에 올라와있는 가장 긴 튜브형 워터슬라이드는 길이가 326.32미터에 달하는 독일의 ‘매직아이’이며, 가장 높은 워터슬라이드는 높이가 41미터인 블라질의 “인사노”이다.

리브 모어 어썸 측은 이 워터슬라이드가 2월 23일과 24일 양일에 걸쳐 열리는 우울증 퇴치를 위한 기금 모집 축제의 일부라고 설명했다.

드룹스틴은 “우리들도 우울증으로 인해 고통을 받았다”라며 우울증을 피할 수 있는 가장 좋은 방법은 “멋지게 사는 것”이라고 말했다.

그는 “이번 프로젝트로 인해 다른 사람들도 똑같이 (멋지게 사는 것을) 할 수 있기를 바란다며” 다른 이들에게 도움을 청해도 된다는 사실을 우울증을 겪고 있는 사람들이 알기를 바란다고 덧붙였다. (코리아헤럴드)

Kiwis building ‘world’s biggest waterslide’

A New Zealand charity group is constructing what it claims to be the world’s biggest waterslide, as part of its effort to raise awareness about depression.

Jimi Hunt and Dan Drupsteen, who cofounded antidepression group Live More Awesome, said they are building a 650-meter-long waterslide for their two-day fund-raising festival on Feb. 23 and 24, in Helensville, 40 kilometers northwest of Auckland.

The slide is currently just a mud track through a field of cows, but it is expected to clinch the title of world’s longest water slide when finished.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the world’s longest inner tube waterslide is “Magic-Eye” in Germany, which is 356.32 meters long. The world’s tallest waterslide is Brazilian slide “Insano,” which is 41 meters high.

The gigantic slide will be joined by smaller 80-meter slide and 60-meter “grandma slip‘n’slide.”

Drupsteen said he and Hunt have both suffered from depression, and added the best way to escape depression was to “live more awesome.”

“We hope this amazing project will encourage others to do the same and we want people to know it‘s okay to ask for help,” he said.
