경제 전문 미디어그룹 블룸버그 통신이 올해 한국어판 기사를 선보일 예정이라고 16일 밝혔다.
블룸버그 한국지사 관계자는 “한글뉴스를 공급하기로 (뉴욕시 본사 주재) 경영진이 최종 결정했다”며 “이르면 오는 6월께, 늦어도 하반기 중 홈페이지에 한국어판 서비스를 개시할 예정으로 안다”고 말했다.
블룸버그는 현재 영어 이외에 서반아어, 중국어, 일본어 등으로 작성된 기사를 제공하고 있다. 이 관계자는 한국어판 추가의 주요 배경으로 국내 금융시장 및 산업 전반의 성장을 꼽았다.
한국시장이 확대됨과 동시에 해당 언어에 대한 수요도 커졌다는 것이 그의 설명이다.
이에 앞서 다우존스 및 아시안월스트리트저널이 한글기사 서비스를 개시했고, 주요 외신들의 이 같은 움직임은 더욱 가속화 할 전망이다.

Bloomberg jumps into Korean news market
U.S.-based financial news wire agency Bloomberg said Wednesday that it would launch a Korean news wire service this year.
“The decision makers (at the headquarters in New York City) made the final decision to provide news covered and written in Korean,” an insider source at Bloomberg’s Korean branch told The Korea Herald. “The service will be applied on the Bloomberg website around June at the earliest or in the second half at the latest.”
At present, Bloomberg offers non-English news services in Spanish, Chinese and Japanese. The news wire agency decided to add Korean, the source said, due to the growth in Korea’s financial market and industries.
The move underscores that demand for Korean language services has grown in parallel with the local market expansion, the source said.
Some other foreign news agencies such as Dow Jones News and the Asian edition of The Wall Street Journal already run Korean news services.
Big name foreign news agencies’ moves to provide Korean news likely will motivate other major foreign news agencies to follow suit, market observers said.
